August 2025: SURI Students Shine at Research Presentations
Lily, Adhithi, and Sriya completed their SURI research presentations, sharing their projects and receiving feedback. Congratulations to all three!
August 2025: High Schoolers Visit the Fly Core
Daniel and John visited the fly core for a few days to learn about Drosophila research. They explored the strengths of Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism and learned about tissue-specific protein expression before the school year began!
Summer 2025: Welcoming Our SURI Research Interns
We welcomed Weihan (Lily) Chen, Adhithi Shankar, and Sriya Dev as SURI research interns for summer 2025. Their projects provided hands-on experience with neurological research in the Chung Lab.
July 2025: Welcome Andrew and Maggie to the Chung Lab!
Andrew, a recent Rice University graduate, joined the lab as a research technician. Maggie, an undergraduate at Rice, joined this summer as a student researcher.
June 2025: Chung Lab Celebrates Sarita’s Next Chapter
The lab gathered at a Korean restaurant on Sarita’s last day to thank her for her contributions and wish her well as she begins medical school.
May 2025: Howard Selected for an Oral Presentation on CDK19 Research
Howard gave an invited oral presentation at the 3rd Graduate Neuroscience Symposium on newly identified CDK19 variants and their pathogenicity. His talk explored clinical and genetic aspects of kinase module gene variants.
May 2025: Ranjan Presents Research on DDX23 at the Graduate Neuroscience Symposium
At the 3rd Graduate Neuroscience Symposium, Ranjan presented a poster on his project, “Pathogenic gain-of-function variants in DDX23 cause a neurodevelopmental syndrome with microcephaly, motor delay and seizure.”

Dr. Chung gave an invited talk at the Undiagnosed Diseases Network International conference in Seoul.

Dr. Howard Koh presented a poster on CDK19 in neurologic disorders at the UDNI 2024 conference in Seoul.
August 2024: Aryan’s Presentation
Aryan presented a poster on his CNOT4 research, using Drosophila to study rare neurological disorders.

The Chung Lab celebrated Aryan’s poster award and John and Lamha’s successful summer research with a lab lunch.
